Start with a workplace need
Define what participants should be able to do differently. Use a real situation rather than a broad topic to frame the learning objective.
Practise in a relevant context
Use exercises, role plays and discussions that reflect the situations people encounter at work.
Make application specific
Ask each participant to select an action they can apply soon after the session. Identify any support they will need.
Include the manager
A short follow-up conversation can help the participant apply learning, get feedback and address obstacles.
Review evidence of change
Look at examples of work and observable behaviours. Participant satisfaction can be useful, but it does not by itself show a change in performance.
